What are the Steps in Installing an Attic Fan?

Now get to know what are the steps to be followed while installing an attic fan in a DIY manner at your house.

Attic Fan Installation

An attic fan aids in ensuring that hot air or moisture doesn’t accumulate in the attic. The main purpose of installing one such fan in the attic is to prevent condensation, humidity and moisture in the attic or crawl space. Thus, it helps in keeping the air moisture-free and enhances the life of the insulation material. An attic fan installation also helps in removing the foul air from within the house interior and loft space and also keeps the attic cool & pleasant during the hot & arid summer months which can sometimes become unbearable. Obviously an air-conditioning unit can cool the place down, but you wouldn’t like to see inflated energy bills at the end of every month. Thus, an attic fan installation & maintenance becomes necessary.  If you have an attic, it’s wise that you install the fan.

Some important steps to follow when installing an attic fan

You should start by preparing yourself. To avoid being affected by a lot of heat, you should wait for a cool day in order to install the attic fan. You should also get the right protective gear.

Once you have prepared yourself adequately you should now start working. You should make an opening by removing the gable vent on the side of your house. You should then center your new fan vent over the opening and check its level.

When the fan vent is in place you should install the fan. You should cut a piece of plywood that is wide enough to reach the framing studs on the sides of the vent and then using a template, trace the airway circle.

You should cut the circle and place the fan over it. When placing the fan you should be cautious of the “up” and “down” marking. To make it secure, you should fasten the fan to the plywood using mounting brackets.

After ensuring that the fan is securely in place, you should connect the power. You should run the electrical circuit of the fan up to the junction box. To keep the cable in place you should staple it to the framing after every 12 inches.

You should then connect the bare ground to the green terminal and then bring the white wires together. You should then close the box and set the thermostat to 105 degree Fahrenheit.
